The latest issue of Rolling Stone features a four-page profile on Diplo and his “global jet-set party starter lifestyle.” The article, (“Diplo and the Search for the Perfect Beat”), follows the electronic tastemaker from his LA studio to a Las Vegas club to an after party at a nearby Vegas strip bar, to the flight –that he almost misses–back to LA and his one and half year old son and live-in girlfriend.

In the moments between this hustle, the DJ/producer talks technique. “I’m always making things up and don’t know what I’m doing half the time,” Diplo tells RS, “so when people come to see me, they don’t know what they want to sound like – they just want to sound like something from the future. “

The piece also reveals that the sequel to Diplo’s side project Major Lazer’s 2009 debut Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do is forthcoming, as is a solo EP and a possible relocation back to the southern United States where he grew up. ‘In three years, I want to leave LA and move to New Orleans,’ he says. ‘I love that city. I want to build more music there and more culture.’”

Other insights: Diplo collects maps, used to teach reading and art at an after school program in Philadelphia, makes upwards of $75,000 a set, calls his ex-girlfriend MIA’s performance at the Super Bowl “kind of stupid,” and is currently working with Justin Bieber.
